Every year, the Flower Council develops a number of style trends for the horticulture sector, in collaboration with Tuinbranche Nederland, iBulb, INretail, and Bureau Nijman + Van Haaster. The Green Industry Trends for 2023 consist of four style trends focusing on flowers, indoor plants, and outdoor plants. In this article, we will explore the style trend Ode to Nature, which places a strong emphasis on climate and sustainability. Keep reading to get inspired!<\/p>\n

Style trend Ode to Nature<\/h2>\n

The Ode to Nature style trend highlights the importance of climate and sustainability. Due to the climate crisis, we feel vulnerable compared to nature\u2019s overwhelming power. We feel the pressing need to do something about climate change because we\u2019re at risk. At the same time, we show our affinity with nature. We are part of it, after all. This is reflected in how we decorate our homes, both inside and out.<\/p>\n

The core values within this trend are: natural, wild, powerful, organic, erratic, bio-based, durable, circular, at one with nature, fused, and connectivity.<\/p>\n

Ode to Nature in interior design<\/h3>\n

Within the Ode to Nature style trend, nature appears to intrude on our interiors. Think of seemingly wild inside borders and sofas that look like they are made of rocks, but actually are made of a soft material. The shapes within this trend are organic, robust, irregular, and as such, natural. We see many rock, stone, and boulder shapes that appear to be hand-made. The materials are natural and environmentally conscious. The used patterns are natural textures, reliefs, erratic lines, and d\u00e9grad\u00e9 or spill-over effects.<\/p>\n

Expect to see green, brown, and soft, earthy tones prevalent in the interior colour palette. The use of colour is natural and balanced, with shades of brown and green and a few saturated colours for flowers and flowering plants. We also see white reflected in the flowers, which is an exception in the colour palette. The flowers and plants within this trend have erratic and natural shapes and are also applied this way.<\/p>\n

Ode to Nature in the garden<\/h3>\n

The influence of nature is also evident in outdoor spaces, with the presence of organic and whimsical shapes. Gardens are given a wild character, with winding semi-paved paths and wild borders. The use of a large variety of flowers and plants stimulates biodiversity. Balconies are also covered in lush green, with an abundance of horizontal and vertically planted plants. This enables you to \u2018disappear\u2019 into the green. The used materials are either recycled or of natural origin. Moreover, we include nature in the design, for example, by using tree trunks as benches or stepping ‘stones\u2019 in a body of water.<\/p>\n
