Every year, Plants & Flowers Foundation Holland develops several style trends for the horticulture sector, collaborating with the sector organisation Tuinbranche Nederland, iBulb, INretail, and Bureau Nijman + Van Haaster. The Horticulture Trends 2026 consist of four inspirational style trends for flowers and plants. In this article, we will explore Nostalgic Lens, which is all about seeking refuge in the past because it feels safe and recognisable. Read on and get inspired!<\/p>\n

Nostalgic Lens<\/h2>\n

The Nostalgic Lens style trend views the world through a safe, homely and nostalgic lens. We live in complex times that are filled with uncertainty about the future. What will a new era bring? And what can we do now that the privileges we have acquired are under threat?<\/p>\n

Key values of this trend are: nostalgic, rustic, artisanal, romantic, handicrafts, cheerful, cottage and everyday.<\/p>\n

Nostalgic Lens in interior design<\/h3>\n

In the Nostalgic Lens interior, you imagine yourself in the uncomplicated times of yesteryear. Cottage style is making a comeback, with a fresh and cheerful twist. Bright pastels, handicrafts, hand-painted ceramics, delicate flowers and checks set the tone. It feels rustic, cosy and homely. This \u2018nostalgia with a twist\u2019 is also reflected in flowers and houseplants. Fruits and vegetables are appearing in arrangements, and Biedermeier design is making a comeback. Plant lovers are increasingly focusing on small flowering plants and bulbs in pots.<\/p>\n

Not surprisingly, the shapes featured in this trend are handcrafted and nostalgic. Grandma\u2019s kitchen is a major source of inspiration. We see the shapes of dishes, bowls, pans and jugs replicated in other utensils and objects. Pieces of furniture also often have a nostalgic edge. The materials used are ceramics, old glass, enamel, zinc, wood, leather, cotton, linen, raffia and wicker. Small flowers, stripes and checks feature in the designs.<\/p>\n

Colour palette<\/h3>\n

The Nostalgic Lens colour palette consists of white and fresh pastels like pink, purple and mauve. These colours alternate with different shades of green. Bright accent colours like red, orange and blue complete the cheerful and contemporary colour scheme.<\/p>\n
