4 tips to give your plants a long happy life
The Urban Jungle trend is really great, but it could be hard to keep those plants alive if you don’t have green fingers. That’s why we’ve put together a number of tips that will guarantee you a house full of living plants. This is how to give your plants a long happy life:
Choose the right location
There are so many different kinds of plants, and each has its own favourite spot. In full sun, one kind will bloom while another will die. For this reason, always ask about the best place to put a plant if it is new to you. A general rule is that the thicker and sturdier the leaves, the more light the plant needs. Another guideline is that a location in direct sunlight, near a radiator or in a draught is never good.
Provide enough water but not too much
The amount of water a plant needs depends on what kind it is. Actually, too much water is always worse than too little. This is why it’s a good idea to feel the soil in the pot at least once a week to see if it’s still moist. If it is, there’s no need to water it, but check it again in another few days. If you have a habit of drowning your plants, put absorbent granules in the bottom of the pot; these will soak up excess water.
Dust them
In a natural environment, plants are ‘cleaned’ by wind and rain. Indoors, of course, this doesn’t happen. By dusting your plants every now and then, they can breathe again.
Give them a bit of pampering
Giving them the right spot, enough water, and a chance to breathe will really help your plants. But also give them a good once-over now and then. Remove any dead leaves and faded flowers, make sure that the plant is still standing upright, and look to see if the roots still have enough room to grow. You could call it a ‘scheduled maintenance check’ for your plants! 😉
