“My interior style is all about warmth, colour and feeling. I love combinations that are just a little different – but always cosy and balanced. This corner of the living room is a good example of that.”

Colour with Character

Anyone who has ever taken a peek inside influencer Evelien’s home via her Instagram channel Thuis bij Eef knows that her interior is a feast of colour with character. Rich shades, such as aubergine, terracotta, and gold, create a cosy, elegant atmosphere – exactly what you want on a grey autumn day. The velvety-soft sofa invites you to sink into it, while the wall art and unique accessories add a personal touch.

The real eye-catcher? The Anthurium, also known as the flamingo plant. With its glossy, heart-shaped leaves and graceful flowers, it adds a cheerful accent to the room. Eef chose a soft pink variety that contrasts beautifully with the deep red wall.

“I love its playful shape and that little bit of shine – it makes the room lively without being too busy.”

More Than Just a Plant

But the Anthurium is more than just beautiful. Research from Wageningen University shows that the plant can remove more than half of the air pollution in a home within 24 hours. This makes it the perfect plant for autumn and winter, when we spend more time indoors and ventilate less.

It’s also wonderfully easy to care for: place it in a bright spot, water it regularly, and give it a little plant food in spring and summer. Want to try something different? Place the plant in water in a glass vase – a method known as hydroponics. This beautifully showcases the roots, giving the plant a fresh, contemporary look.

“For me, the Anthurium is the perfect finishing touch to any interior: a plant with character that fits every mood and every season. And honestly? Those heart-shaped leaves just make you happy.”
