Every year, the Flower Council develops several style trends for the horticulture sector, collaborating with Tuinbranche Nederland, iBulb, INretail, and Bureau Nijman + Van Haaster. The Green Industry Trends 2025 consists of four style trends that focus on flowers, indoor plants, and outdoor plants. In this article, we will explore the style trend Unique Utopia, which is all about luxury, grandeur, vibrant colours, and making a bold statement. Read on and get inspired!

Horticulture Trends for 2025: Unique Utopia

The Unique Utopia style trend focuses on joy, creativity, and freedom. The starting point for this trend is that various crises are weighing down on us, dampening everyday life. This stifling situation makes us want to escape for a little while, so we stretch the boundaries a little. Unique Utopia embodies this sentiment, with its feelings of luxury, grandeur, and a colourful and imposing nature.

The core values of this trend are luxury, tropical, sweltering, exciting, magnified, colourful, warm, and decorative.

Unique Utopia in interior design

This trend translates extremely well to home design, creating an inner world where everything is bigger and more imaginative than usual. Tropical atmospheres are created by taking inspiration from nature, such as butterflies and birds. Typical Unique Utopia shapes are organic, incredibly decorative and often exaggerated. Butterfly, leaf and flower shapes are common, complemented by images of tropical birds, flora and fauna. Patterns are imaginative and larger than life. Luxury materials such as coloured glass, glazed ceramics, voile and velvet feature prominently alongside more subdued woods, paper and cardboard.

Exotic bouquets are full, colourful and imaginatively filled with unusual floral combinations. How about combining peonies with protea, or an orchid with a decorative parakeet tulip? Houseplants in this style trend are big, and impressive and exude a strongly exotic vibe for both green and flowering plants.

Unique Utopia colour palette

A trend like this calls for a bold colour palette. With a neutral base of different shades of brown, bright colours abound. We see deep, warm colours such as aubergine, purple and red interspersed with brighter shades including yellow, pink and turquoise. And you can’t forget the ever-present green, of course.
