A fresh bouquet in your home – who doesn’t love it? But it can be frustrating when your beautiful arrangement starts to wilt after just a few days. Fortunately, there are flowers known for their long vase life, and the Anthurium is one of them! This flower combines a stylish look with durability, making it perfect for sustainable home styling.

Sustainable home styling

With the right care, Anthurium flowers can stay beautiful in a vase for two to three weeks – and sometimes even longer. Thanks to their sturdy structure, they are much less prone to wilting than more delicate flowers. Moreover, the production process of Anthuriums increasingly takes sustainability into account. For example, 90% of Anthurium growers affiliated with Anthurium Info are MPS-certified. MPS stands for More Profitable Sustainability, and the foundation’s goal is to minimise the environmental impact of the participating companies. They have to meet strict requirements and are subject to monitoring on a regular basis.

Choose flowers with a long vase life

The average cut flower lasts seven days before you can throw it away – such a waste! For a beautiful and long-lasting bouquet, combine Anthuriums with other long-lasting flowers. Think of lilies, alstroemeria, chrysanthemums, gerberas or cut orchids like cymbidium. This way, you can create a sustainable bouquet that brings colour and atmosphere into your home for weeks!

To maximise the lifespan of your flowers, there are a few things you can do:

  • Cut 5 cm off the bottom of the stems at an angle
  • Use a clean vase
  • Place the vase in a spot with indirect sunlight. Keep the flowers away from draughts, ripening fruit and radiators
  • Always remove wilted flowers immediately so bacteria spread less quickly in the water
  • Refresh the water in the vase about once a week and trim 1 cm off the bottom of the stems at an angle
