When you buy a bunch of cut flowers, you want them to look beautiful for as long as possible. We’ve all had this happen at one time or another: we come home with a pretty bunch of flowers only to discover a few days later that they’ve already begun to wilt. What a shame! So, which cut flowers will last a long time? This article introduces you to some of them.
Which cut flowers will last a long time?
Anthurium flowers can easily remain attractive in a vase for two to three weeks. These are long-lasting flowers with sturdy stems. Anthuriums are easy to care for and they need very little attention to keep looking beautiful for a long time.
Anthuriums are available as cut flowers and pot plants in a wide range of sizes and varieties. Their flowers vary in shape as well: choose from heart-, tulip- or cup shaped flowers. And that’s not all, because they are also available in a wide range of colours including pink, orange, purple, yellow, salmon, brown and even black. If you want to make it even more colourful, choose a variety with multicoloured flowers.

Other examples of flowers with a long vase life include chrysanthemums and carnations. As chrysanthemums are also available in many different colours, they add a summery feel to any room. They can easily last for three weeks. Carnations, too, have a vase life of three to four weeks.
Care
If you want to enjoy your flowers for a long time, proper care must be given. After all, even low-maintenance flowers won’t last long without the correct treatment. So always start with the flower care immediately after you buy a fresh bunch of flowers. Remove all the packaging material and rubber bands and shorten the stems a couple of centimeters by cutting them at an angle. Set the vase of flowers where they will receive daylight but not direct sunlight. Replace the water once a week and also trim another centimetre from the stems right before putting the flowers back in the vase. This will make them last even longer!
