Every year, the Flower Council develops a number of style trends for the horticulture sector, in collaboration with Tuinbranche Nederland, iBulb, INretail, and Bureau Nijman + Van Haaster. The Green Industry Trends for 2023 consist of four style trends focusing on flowers, indoor plants, and outdoor plants. Style trend Vintage Folklore
In this hardened society, we feel the loss of connection and harmony. That is why the style trend Vintage Folklore represents attention to diversity and a product’s useful purpose. The motto is not to throw out, but to repair and patch up with love. It has influences from the 70s, where creativity, vibrant colours, and flowers come together.
The core values of Vintage Folklore are diversity, respect for the product, vintage, attention to the product’s lifecycle, colourful collection, rustic folklore, DIY, creative, influences from the 70s, and small flower patterns (millefleur).
Vintage Folklore in interior design
Vintage Folklore has influences from the 70s, from rustic folklore, handicraft, and fine flower patterns, but also composed of different products and materials, damaged and broken shapes as if they were glued together. This results in a personal interior with a warm and inviting atmosphere. Think of soft furniture with round shapes, coloured plates on a wall and patchwork. Vintage Folklore contains many materials that nod to the 70s. Jersey, bouclé, corduroy, textile, crochet and knitting works, veneer, tiles, and pottery are examples of this. The shapes are also inspired by the seventies and rustic folklore. Handicrafts, recycling, and upcycling determine the design. We see the same sources of inspiration for patterns, with alternated patterns that form a harmonious whole. Patterns with flowers are also commonly used.
The colours within this trend are cheerful and diverse, and seemingly mismatched at first glance. Expect a colourful palette with natural and bright shades, as well as pastels next to darker hues.
